Leaving Certificate Art aims to develop in learners the knowledge, skills, understanding and values needed to bring an idea to realisation and to respond to, understand, analyse and evaluate their own work and the work of others. Each learner is a unique individual and will be enabled to develop their own skill set in a personal way. The learner will become aware of the world of Visual Studies, how it can inform their own work and life, and thereby become more aware of their own place in a wider society.
Leaving Certificate Art is made up of 3 sections:
50% Practical Project - December to April of Year 2. Based on a theme given by the SEC.
20% Practical Exam – April of year 2. Based on the same theme, given by the SEC.
30% Visual Studies – Written Exam in June of Year 2.
It is a two-year course where students study a variety of art disciplines and approaches including drawing, painting, ceramics, mixed media, combined materials, etc. While experience and ability in art isdesired it is not a requirement for taking the subject up at Senior Cycle.
