Beats, Bonding, and Belonging: GCC Students Find Their Rhythm with Lorcan Mitchell
Galway Community College was alive with the sound of percussion recently as twenty of our English as an Additional Language (EAL) students gathered for an unforgettable drumming workshop. Led by the talented Lorcan Mitchell of Mitchell Music, it was an afternoon in connection, culture, and community.
Students had great fun exploring "musical cultural fusion," blending Irish traditional rhythms with Samba and African beats.
Cultivating Talent and Friendship
Liam integrated some Irish language greeting into some of the beats and music as students learned in a fun and melodic way. One student noted, "The power music has to connect was very evident,"
Galway City Partnership Support
This wonderful experience would not have been possible without external support. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the team at Galway City Partnership. Their generous funding and ongoing support made this workshop a reality, providing our students with a joyful space to celebrate their heritage while embracing their new home in Galway.
We will continue to work together to showcase how we at Galway Community College put “Unity” into our school “Community” in real life!
