Student Deferral of College Place
If you are a student contemplating deferring your place in college and interested in a Legal or Medical career why not complete a FETAC Level 5 “Legal Secretary/Medical Secretary or Business Administration and Office Technology” Course where you can avail of work placement in the legal and medical field of business in order to gain experience in helping confirm your course choice. While developing the following skills: IT, report writing, software proficiency, typing skills, team building and social skills. Work placement experience in your chosen vocational area with references from employer and college.

Progression to Third Level Education
Opportunities open to students who did not achieve the desired Leaving Certificate to allow them entry to your desired course from the CAO system, you can have the opportunity to achieve up to 400 points in a PLC Legal Secretary/Medical Secretary or Business Administration and Office Technology Course and gain access to 3rd Level or for mature students who did not complete a Leaving Certificate to gain access to 3rd Level. You will be equipped with typing skills, audio
transcription skills, proficiency in various software packages, training on the completion of assignments and projects at a professional level, effective communication skills and collaborative work.

Career Opportunities
Having qualified with a “Legal Secretary/Medical Secretary or Business Administration and Office Technology” Course” FETAC Level 5 you can gain employment as a Legal Secretary in a Solicitors Office, Medical Secretary in a Hospital, Doctors Office, Receptionist, Office Administrator in Hotels, businesses and multinational companies.

Work Experience

Work experience takes place one day per week throughout the academic year in local offices where future contacts with prospective employers can be established.

Special Features

Learn to use a wide range of office technology confidently including Tas Books, Database and Internet, and develop speed in accurate typing. Enhance communication & presentation skills using Powerpoint and Data projectors.
Regular visits and presentations from HR departments from large businesses, banks and others from the local business sector.

Entry Requirements

FETAC Level 4, minimum of 17 years of age at time of registration, Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied, Equivalent qualifications from other countries, relevant life experiences, relevant work experiences and mature students.
