Course Outline

This course allows students the opportunity to refine and further develop their skills in the sports and fitness area. Students gain a deeper understanding of sports related topics and gain experience in dealing with a variety of groups. They learn to apply their knowledge and skills obtained at level 5

Successful students will qualify with an additional ITEC Diploma in Personal Training and gain invaluable work experience in this area.


Fees

GCC Registration Fee of €250 applies to all learners.
€200 Government Levy Fee applies to all learners except:

  • Those in receipt of Back to Education Allowance.
  • Medical Card Holders (valid at time of Registration).
  • Those in receipt of a SUSI Grant.
  • Those on a VTOS scheme.

An exam free of €50 for QQI Level 5 and €80 for QQI Level 6 applies to all learners except

  • Those in receipt of Back to Education Allowance.
  • Medical Card Holders (valid at time of Registration).

Non EU Students are subject to an International Fee.

We advise non-EU citizens living outside Ireland to contact the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service on www.inisgov.ie to ensure the course you are considering applying for is eligible for a student visa. Non-EU citizens living in Ireland are welcome to apply and require a PPS number (Personal Public Service Number). Work experience takes place throughout the academic year in a variety of centres and enterprises offering sport and recreation activities.

Course Modules

This module aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the role and function of management in the business environment, in addition to developing effective management skills.
This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to work independently and or in an instructional capacity in an exercise, health and fitness environment.
This module is designed to enable learners to establish community health programmes and raise community awareness of Health related issues.
This programme module aims to assist the learner to gain an understanding of the structure, procedures, functioning and rules and regulations within the sport, recreation and exercise sector.
The module is designed to provide the learner with a sound knowledge of the concepts of nutrition, in relation to the energy sources and amounts required for active living, exercise, sport and weight management.
This module is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge to change behaviour in a sporting context. It will enable participants to develop an understanding of the psychological principles that underpin coaching techniques. It is aimed at individuals who are working with teams or athletes and participants who choose to work in the leisure industry.
This programme module aims to provide the learner with a comprehensive range of skills with detailed theoretical understanding of a general supervisory nature of the work placement in a specific vocational area.
